Communication is the core of our living, and somewhere consciously or unconsciously we all know that if we can communicate effectively there is nothing we cannot achieve.
So, for having success and happiness in your life, it is really important to have communication skills as a strength in such a way that we can create a pleasant and memorable experience for the people who communicate with us.
Recently, I had a wonderful conversation with Lary Wilson on the topic “Communication for Building Relationships” on the Personality Development Podcast. Larry Wilson is an Emmy-nominated writer, performer, producer, and the 2017 comedy magician of the Year.
He is also a founder of “The Wilson Method”, a method that has effective communication techniques for everyone to learn.
In the episode, he shared wonderful stories and techniques which were really easy and can be implemented by anyone. So, I am here to share some of the amazing things which he said and hopefully, you will be able to resonate with it and it will add value to your life.
Here are 4 tips for communication that will leave a memorable experience for others.
Active Listening
Active listening is not only a process of nodding but it is also a process of showing people that you care about what they are saying, to make them understand that you are really interested to listen to them, and actually listening to each and every word that has been said.
In the episode, Larry shares his wonderful life experience when he met a Hollywood celebrity at a party, and that celebrity left him with the most amazing experience. For listening to that, you will have to listen to the podcast. But the point is, when you show someone, that you really care and are interested in listening to them, it makes them feel respected and in return, you earn their respect as well.
Look at them
One of the key things, which most people miss doing is to look directly in the eye of the person while listening to them. One of the amazing things Larry said on this episode was, “When you look in someone’s eyes, they feel much more connected”. He also shares this amazing technique of how you can improve looking into the camera while speaking and also with the same technique you can improve this skill to look in the person’s eye.
The technique is really simple when you are in front of the camera, put a photograph of the favorite person in your life. It can be a celebrity’s photo, a photo of someone who you love dearly, or a best friend’s photo. So while speaking you will not be conscious looking at the camera or in someone’s eye but you will be actually looking at the photo. Anyone can try this technique at home and it is not going to cost anything. So, make sure to give it a try.
Stop thinking what others are thinking about you
This is one of the most common things which most people do. Either knowingly or unknowingly we do think about what other person is thinking about us. Well, let me tell you the interesting fact that Larry told in this episode and I believe the same, “when you talk to someone, the other person is also thinking what you are thinking about him/her.”
So next time when you talk to someone, don’t be worried about what the other person is thinking about you as they are thinking the same.
Implementation
We do listen to a lot of things on the internet, podcasts, youtube videos and so much more, now just imagine, if we can apply only 10% of those learnings in our lives. So my point is, after reading this short article, I would love it if you try to implement these learnings in your life. It is not going to cost you and it is simple.
And also I would be thrilled if you connect with me and let me know how these techniques worked for you. But yes, do not expect an overnight result, practice these things for 2 weeks at least and do let me know.
So yes, these are some of the ways which were there in the episode, and of course, you can listen to more by listening to the full podcast episode. Below is the link for the same:

To conclude, I would just say, do not forget to practice and believe that you can develop yourselves. As these are skills, and because these are skills, they can be learned and developed.
