When you know what your strengths are, you are about to achieve almost anything in your life. So, knowing your strengths become a vital part to become successful and happy.
When you know your strengths, you can easily leverage those strengths in the area of work where you want to grow. But how do we know what are strengths are?
In the 2nd part of Season 5 Finale on Personality Development Podcast, I met Pamela Kellert, an Executive Coach and a Women Coach in the STEM industry, she explained beautifully how one can know their strengths and leverage the same to achieve success in life. After listening to her, I looked back on my life's journey and thought I have done similar things in my life and so I am here to share the things which she said, and how following that has helped me in my life and I am pretty sure it can help you out as well.
So, here I am, sharing with you, 3 easy ways to know your strengths straight from the episode:
- Trial & Error
It is quite obvious, very few know about their strengths in the formative years of their career. Although everyone knows, which field they want to go into, they would still be confused about which area to choose in that field.
For example, I always wanted to be in the IT industry but I didn't know what I want to do in the IT industry, there are so many options, I can be a programmer, front-end designer, or full stack developer, and the list is long.
In these situations, one can only know about their strengths by actually working on them. So I did an internship in design, and development and when I got into the role of Business Analyst, that is where I found my liking, and today, I do enjoy doing my job. In a situation, where you are just getting started, go for these internships, there are so many websites today that give you the platform to find internships according to your needs. And if you want any guidance on that, I will mention the link at the end of this article.
- Have a chat with your family & friends:
Most of the time, there are certain things that come to us super easily, and yet we are completely unaware of them. I remember there was a time when I used to host my family functions and one of my family members came to me and said, you are very good at this, and you should do something with it. Now, before this, I thought, that hosting a family function is really easy and that can be done by anyone, and it turned out that it wasn't easy for many. If that one person, wouldn't be told about it, I would have never come to know about it.
I further discussed, with my friends the things which they feel are my strengths and I was told some of the things that I personally never considered my strength. So make sure, once you are done reading this article, to have a chat with some of your good friends.
- Professional Tests:
Nowadays, you can know your strengths through professional tests, some of the best examples of this are Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, Enneagram and so much more. These tests tell you the things strengths and weaknesses which you have and based on that you can make your career decisions. Personally, I would suggest taking these professional tests and having a chat with your mentor or guide and then deciding for yourself what would you like to go ahead with.
So yes, these are the 3 ways in which you can identify your strength and leverage these to achieve success. But, keep in mind this article does not act like a pill that you have taken and you will see an overnight result. It is a process, make sure to go with the process, and I am sure you will find what you are good at.
