Michael B. Karl

Michael B. Karl is a senior software architect and compliance competence lead with more than 15 years of experience in complex software development. His work brings together two disciplines that are too often kept apart: designing software systems, and making sure the third-party components inside them are used securely and in line with their licenses.

As a compliance competence lead, he helps engineering teams turn license and supply-chain requirements into practical, everyday processes. This book draws on that experience and is written for the people who build, ship and govern software.

Michael holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in computer science and electrical engineering, earned in Italy and the Netherlands. That combination of software and hardware training shapes the practical, system-wide perspective of this book.

He lives in the Netherlands with his wife and their two children.
