Start a new course
- Open Courses in the studio.
- Press Create a new course. The course editor opens with a new draft.
The editor has a tab for each part of the course: Info & Sections, Course Quiz, Assignment, Banner image, Pricing, Publish, Collaborators and Registered students.
Describe your course
In Info & Sections, open Course information and fill in:
- Name: a clear, specific name. This is what learners see in listings.
- Space: where the course belongs. Spaces you can't create in are shown greyed out, with the reason.
- Language: the language you teach the course in. It's shown on the course card, and learners can filter courses by it.
- Description: what the course covers and who it is for. It's shown on the course page before people enroll.
- Learning objectives: what learners will be able to do afterwards. A short list works best.
- Categories and Hash tags: help learners find the course when they browse and search.
Write the sections
A course is made of sections, like the chapters of a book. Each one is a lesson with its own text, videos and attachments.
- Open Course sections and press Create new section.
- Give the section a title and write the lesson in the Edit section tab.
- Repeat for each lesson, then drag the sections into the order learners should follow.
Plan your sections before you write them. Short, focused sections are easier to follow than a few very long ones.
Add images
Drag an image into the editor, paste it, or use the image button in the toolbar.
Add videos
- Open the section's Section videos tab and upload your video.
- Press Copy URL next to it.
- Back in Edit section, use the editor's video button and paste the link.
A video that is used in the text can't be deleted until you remove it from the text.
Add files to download
Put slides, handouts and worksheets in the section's Section attachments tab.
Audio version
Once a section is published, it gets an AI-narrated audio version that learners can play. The Listen tab shows its status. After you save changes, the audio is made again, usually within a few minutes.
Add a quiz
A quiz lets learners check what they've understood.
- Open the Course Quiz tab and press Create new quiz question.
- Write the question and pick an answer type: True or False or Multiple choice.
- Add the options and select the circle next to the correct answer. Multiple choice questions need at least two options.
Add an assignment
An assignment is work learners hand in for you to grade.
- Open the Assignment tab.
- Choose the assignment type:
- Create assignment in editor: write the questions, and learners answer them on the site.
- Submit assignment as attachment: upload the assignment files, and learners hand in their work as files.
- Press Save assignment.
You grade submissions in the Registered students tab. See Your learners and analytics.
Pick a banner image
The banner is the first thing people see in listings and at the top of the course page. Upload it in the Banner image tab. A wide, uncluttered image works best.
Set a price
Courses can be free or paid. Set the price, and any discount codes, in the Pricing tab. See Set prices, discount codes and sales.
Publish your course
Before you can publish, your course needs a name, a description, a banner image and at least one section. The Publish tab shows what's still missing.
- Open the Publish tab.
- Under Section visibility, turn on the sections learners should see. The course goes live as soon as one section is on.
- Turn on the Page options you want:
- Show author information: your name and bio on the course page, and a listing on the Contributors page.
- Show course quiz and Show course assignment: let learners take the quiz and hand in the assignment.
- Allow course discussion: let learners ask questions and discuss the course with each other.
You can publish a course while you're still writing it: turn on the finished sections and add the rest as they're ready. Press View live at the top of the editor to see the course as learners do.
Certificates
Learners who complete every published section get a certificate with a code anyone can check. If you publish new sections later, learners who haven't earned a certificate yet need to complete those too.
Change or unpublish a course
Published courses don't save automatically. Make your changes and press Press to save when they're ready.
To take the course off the site, press Unpublish course in the Publish tab. All its sections are hidden and the course becomes a draft. You can publish it again at any time.
